To adopt a pet from Friends of the Pound, the first step is to look on our website at our available pets. Call the phone number on the slide, either our Adoption Centre on (07) 5524 8590, the Cat Co-ordinator on 0439 766 243 or the Dog Co-ordinator to see if the pet is still available. Prior to adoption, a questionnaire is completed – this will give guidance to the selection of the right pet. Once you qualify and a pet is chosen, it is then time to meet them! This could be at the Booth or a home visit to the foster carer’s home. If you are both a good match, the adoption process can begin! FoP offer a 14 day cooling off period – if the pet does not settle or is deemed unsuitable, we will give a full refund on the return of the animal. If within the 14 day period and after an independent vet check there is something medically wrong with your new pet, FoP will have the animal treated by one of our vets, at our expense.

Please complete the questionnaire. If you are living in a rental situation, a letter from your landlord is a requirement, stating that you can have a pet. If you are a home owner, our requirement is to see your rates notice. All members of the household must be agreeable to a cat or dog coming into the household. Cats must be kept inside at least until after the cooling-off period. Friends of the Pound encourage adopters to keep cats inside for their own safety and the safety of wildlife.

Please complete the questionnaire. Discuss what you would like in a pet with the relevant co-ordinator. Spend time with the pet to see if there is a connection. Listen and follow the steps to introduce your new pet into it’s forever home. Alternatively, you can foster an animal, providing a loving home, secure fencing and a few hours of interaction each day. Firstly, you must become a member of Friends of the Pound. We can provide you with food and bedding, and we pay for all medical costs associated with the foster animal. We also provide you with support at any time you need, about any questions you may have. If you fall in love with your pet, you have the option of providing a forever home!

All pets are given a vet health check, and are microchipped, desexed, vaccinated, flea-controlled and and wormed. If a pet has an on-going condition that is not life-threatening but manageable, FoP will discuss the treatment/feeding. A waiver is offered to cover any condition that may have been missed if an independent health check is undertaken within the 14 day cooling-off period. There are some conditions that cannot be tested for, and older pets may have age-related conditions.
