On 30th June 2018, Friends of the Pound celebrated the opening of our very first wholly owned location – our Pet Adoption and Pre-loved Clothing Centre at 17/39-41 Corporation Circuit, Tweed Heads South.
Thanks to the efforts of our tireless Committee, Volunteers and Members and all their hard work (and the vision of our President Sonia Trichter), and not least to the late Joyce Ada Churchill, whose bequest allowed us to finally have a home of our own, and which secures the future of our pet rescue and rehoming activities in the Tweed Shire and beyond.
The celebration was launched by Geoff Provest, MP, and was well attended by members of the community. Outside we had a free sausage sizzle, raffles and the visitors enjoyed the wonderful toe-tapping music performed live by local musicians Court & Spark, Lyrica Blue, Mel Scarlett & Friends and the Trombone Kelly Gang.
Inside was just as busy, with our Cat Adoption room (where visitors could view some of our available cats and in some cases have a kitty cuddle) and Preloved Clothing store were very popular.
The weather was perfect and everybody was smiling – so wonderful to see the animal loving residents of the Tweed turn out in such numbers.
We’d like to thank everyone for their support and for making our opening celebration a resounding success!
